Judge Mike Cummins has spent more than three decades in the pursuit of justice – as a defense attorney, as a criminal trial prosecutor (over 80 felony juries, including five murder convictions) and as a California Superior Court Judge. This vast experience has uniquely prepared him to effectively lead this critical-to-public-safety District Attorney’s office on Day 1.
Most importantly, Judge Mike Cummins possesses the temperament, judgment, honesty and good faith required of the District Attorney of San Luis Obispo County.
Judge Mike Cummins pledges transparency in his office, investigation into the 12 deaths in the past five years at the county jail, and the reversal of the alarming and downward spiral in the DA office’s jury trial success rate.
Said Judge Mike in a recent media interview:
“So we’re clear, our District Attorney’s Office is staffed with the most highly qualified and hardest working deputy prosecutors in the state. The problems which need fixing didn’t originate with them. Rather, they stem from the current DA’s proven lack of interest in engaging the important, day-to-day affairs of the office.
“Most alarming is his obvious inability to make the right decisions upon which the safety of our citizens depends, based upon his remarkable lack of trial experience (ONLY ONE felony jury trial in his entire career).”
